Mary Magdalen and the Other Mary
The Lamb of God has taken away the sins of the world … and in His honor, we enjoyed a cute “lamb cake” for Easter. Alleluia!
Christ is risen — yes, He is truly risen! Alleluia! It seems during this Easter Octave as if the Church is trying to make up for all her “missed” alleluias during Lent — the acclamation appears at the end of nearly every antiphon and responsory in the Liturgy, and it forms the basis of countless hymns that we sing during this joyful season. Christ our Lord has conquered sin, Satan, and death forever … what better reason to sing ALLELUIA?
The Sisters were very ready to break out into alleluias and celebration after a long forty days of fasting, prayer, and waiting, so on Easter Sunday the novitiate led us in a unique Easter egg scavenger hunt. “Team Mary Magdalen” and “Team Other Mary” each had a set of clues hidden in plastic eggs around the property, and by following the clues they re-lived the events of that first Triduum, ultimately discovering the empty tomb and the Risen Lord! Whoever made it back to “Jerusalem” (aka our patio) first to tell the “Apostles” (aka our Sister Spectators) would be declared the winner.
Well, Team Mary Magdalen finished their course in a jiffy and expected Team Other Mary to be close behind. So they waited … and waited … and waited. Finally, Postulant Abbey had to be sent to rescue them. One particularly well-hidden egg had completely thrown them off-course, and it was only after heavy hinting that things began moving again. At last, they too returned to “Jerusalem” — alleluia! They then told us their version of the story, which kept everyone in stitches!
