Part of That (Monastery) World

As promised, here are the complete lyrics to Aspirant Hannah’s “discernment parody” of “Part of That World” from The Little Mermaid. We have a feeling that other discerners can identify with the feelings she presents here … enjoy!

Part of the Monastery

Look at this stuff
Isn’t it neat?
Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?
Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl
The girl who has everything?

 Look at this trove,
Treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Lookin’ around here you’d think
Sure, she’s got everything!

I’ve got Bibles and holy cards a plenty
I’ve got books and novenas galore
You want rosaries?
I got twenty!
But who cares?
No big deal
I want more …

I wanna be where the sisters are
I wanna see, wanna see ‘em praying
Walking around in those, what do you call em?
Oh, sandals!

Praying alone you don’t get too far
Community is required for the Divine Office
Showin’ the world Christ’s, what’s that word again?
Mercy!

Up where they pray, up where they fast
Up where they contemplate the things that last
Obediently, wish I could be
Part of that world

What would I give if I could live in poverty?
What would I pay to spend a day in a habit?
Bet’cha in there, they are aware
Bet they know love is the root of penance
Bright young women, sick of sinnin’
Ready to stay

And I’m ready to know what the sisters know
Ask ‘em my questions and get some answers
What’s an aspirant and how do I, what’s the word?
Work?

When’s it my turn?
Wouldn’t I love,
Love to live out Crucified Love?
With Our Lady
Someday I’ll be
Part of that world!
