Catherine was born in the 14th century into a prosperous urban family. At the age of seven she consecrated her virginity to Christ despite her family's opposition, and at the age of sixteen, she took the habit of the Dominican Tertiaries.

My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and a shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy.

On April 27, 1910, five weary and sea sick Passionist Nuns began a new chapter in our history as they set foot in the United States of America. It was the vigil of the feast of St. Paul of the Cross, our holy founder. Their mission was to found the first monastery of Passionist Nuns in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep, asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. God has died in the flesh and hell trembles with fear.

They crucified him with two others, one on either side, Jesus being in the middle. Pilate wrote out a notice and had it fixed to the cross; it ran "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews."

The Church dedicates this day to those last hours which our Lord spent on earth and gratefully recalls the gift beyond all price, the legacy of his love, the gift of the Eucharist, which he bequeathed to his Bride. It is the feast of his last will and testament, the abiding pledge of his love, "As the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you, Abide in My love.....This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love than this no one has, that one lay down his life for his friends."

St. Bernadette was born in Lourdes, France on January 7, 1844. When she was fourteen, a very beautiful lady appeared to her above a rose bush in a grotto. The woman wore blue and white and smiled at Bernadette before making the sign of the cross with a rosary. Bernadette fell to her knees, took out her own rosary and began to pray.

Today we commemorate Christ's entry into Jerusalem for the completion of the Paschal Mystery. In the old calendar before Vatican II, the Church celebrated Passion Sunday two Sundays before Easter, and then Palm Sunday was the beginning of Holy Week. The Church has combined the two to reinforce the solemnity of Holy Week.
