An Afternoon in Heaven

The hymns of praise we have been reading in our community scripture study of the book of Revelation inspired us to anticipate the worship of heaven with a Sunday afternoon “Praise and Worship Hour.” Mother John Mary dusted off her guitar skills and coached postulant Theresa (a classically trained guitarist) in strumming, while some of the other sisters joined in singing a variety of songs, including some based on this beautiful text of Revelation.

Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!
Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and might
be to our God forever and ever! Amen.
— Revelation 7:10, 12

A snapshot of our conversation between singing and strumming:

Sister 1: What should we play next?

Sister 2: Maybe not Holy, Holy, Holy…we sing that all the time.

Sister 1: I think that’s what we’ll be singing for all eternity!

Day and night without ceasing they sing,

“Holy, holy, holy,
the Lord God the Almighty,
who was and is and is to come.”
— Revelation 4:8
