In a nutshell: The Apostolic Penitentiary has given us several ways to earn a Passionist Jubilee indulgence:

  1. By making a visit to our monastery in honor of the Jubilee on any of the following dates, along with by the usual requirements of sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, prayer for the Pope’s intentions, and detachment from sin:

    • May 2, 2021 (the 250th anniversary of the Passionist Nuns)

    • Oct 7, 2021 (our monastery’s 75th anniversary)

    • Oct 20, 2021 (the feast of St. Paul of the Cross)

    • Nov 21, 2021 (the feast of the Presentation of Mary in the Temple)

  2. BREAKING NEWS! In consideration of the ongoing pandemic, the indulgence can now be obtained by a visit to any of the Passionist houses any day this year! The requirement is spiritual participation in the Jubilee celebrations and the usual requirements as above.

  3. By making a pilgrimage to any of these four locations any day from 22 Nov 2020 through 31 May 2022, along with the same usual requirements as above:

    • the birthplace of St. Paul of the Cross in Ovada, Italy

    • the monastery of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Monte Argentario, Italy

    • the monastery of Sant'Angelo in Vetralla, Italy

    • the monastery of Saints John and Paul in Rome, Italy

  4. By spending an appropriate period of time before the relic of St. Paul of the Cross in devout meditation and concluding with the prayer of the Our Father and the Creed, and with a prayer to our Lord Jesus Crucified, to the Virgin Mary, our Lady of Sorrows, and to St. Paul of the Cross; along with the usual requirements as above.

  5. Additionally, the elderly, the sick and all those who, for grave reason, cannot leave their homes, will be able to obtain the plenary indulgence by repenting of all sins, and by intending to fulfill the usual three conditions as soon as possible if they have spiritually participated in the Jubilee celebrations, having offered the merciful Lord their prayers and sufferings and the hardships of their lives.

The indulgence can also be applied in suffrage for the souls in Purgatory.
