Talent Show!

Our dear Mother Catherine Marie recently returned to Italy after spending several months at her “old Kentucky home”. However, we didn’t want to let her “slip away” quietly! Thus, the day before Mother was to leave, we organized a special event in her honor: a monastery talent show! Each Sister had the opportunity to demonstrate one or more of her special gifts, and it became a joyful occasion for us all to grow in appreciation and love for one another. We thought you might enjoy an overview of the performances!

The Candy Shop

Sr. Frances Marie and Aspirant Hannah opened our show with a hilarious skit which called for lots of audience participation! Left to right: Christie and Sr. Miriam Esther the “sliding doors,” Hannah with Sr. Mary Andrea the “taffy machine,” and Sr. Cecilia Maria the “revolving door.”

“Legende”

Sr. Cecilia Maria then performed a haunting violin solo … with enough double, triple, and quadruple stops to leave us in awe!

“On top of spaghetti”

Mother John Mary and Sr. Mary Agnes gave us a good laugh with their rendition of an American classic.

“The Spinning Wheel”

Sr. Frances Marie regaled us with one of the many Irish ballads she learned from her father — along with a bit of “dramatic interpretation!”

“Edelweiss”

Sisters Miriam Esther, Cecilia Maria, and Maria Faustina (L-R in photo) performed a trio of a beloved song from The Sound of Music. Notice the vase of snowdrops they gave to Mother!

“Part of That … Monastery!”

Aspirant Hannah’s discernment parody of a song from The Little Mermaid was a big hit — stay tuned for the complete lyrics in an upcoming post!

Inspiration

Sr. Mary Therese gave a touching reflection on the “hurdles” God has helped her to overcome in her life … followed by a demonstration of the “walking hurdles” that she has been practicing with Sr. Frances Marie!

“Refiner’s Fire”

Mother John Mary helped us lift our hearts to the Lord as she led us in some praise and worship music.

Life of Pope Benedict

Sr. Mary Elizabeth read some meaningful passages from a book she has been enjoying: Peter Seewald’s Benedict XVI: A Life.

Allegro vivace

Sr. Miriam Esther performed a lively classical guitar piece by the composer Mauro Giuliani.

“Lord, I Need You”

Sr. Mary Andrea demonstrated her fluency in English Sign Language by signing along to a popular song by Matt Maher! (In the photo, Sister is doing the sign for “God”)

The Grand Finale

Christie rounded out our program with an announcement of her “talent”: the idea for this whole show!
