Feast Day Blessings

September 14-15

“Beneath the Cross of Jesus there stood His Mother …” (Jn 19:25)

Every year, we as Passionists look forward to celebrating these two very special days: the Triumph of the Cross (Sept 14) and Our Lady of Sorrows (Sept 15). Even though the latter feast is not celebrated liturgically this year (since it falls on a Sunday), it is still a festive and joyous occasion in community!

As a little “fervorino” for these special days, we wanted to share with you some words from Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa:

“Mary didn’t, therefore, just stand close to the cross of Jesus in a physical and geographical sense. She was there in a spiritual sense too. She was in union with the cross of Jesus; she was inside the same suffering. She suffered in her heart what her son suffered in his body. And how could anyone who has any idea of what it means to be a mother think differently?” (Read the full homily here)

May the Mother of Sorrows intercede for each one of you today, that you may share in her grace of compassion and may remain close to Christ’s Holy Cross all the days of your lives!

In the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary,

Mother John Mary and the Passionist Nuns
